When you buy a Ford at Johnson Brothers Ford, keep in mind that Ford is doing its part in making the world greener by creating vehicles that are sustainable. Instead of saving money by building cars in the typical fashion, the Ford Motor Company is building more vehicles with different materials; and the company is building hybrid vehicles.

As a matter of fact, Ford topped the ranking of Best Global Green Brands in 2014. The auto manufacturer earned the Number 1 spot on Interbrand’s 50 Best Global Green Brands, an annual list that looks at green companies. Ford Motor Company received high marks in several areas, including transparency about its business operations. The company also received high marks for disclosure of performance information.

Ford continues to improve every year. In 2013, the company came in second on the list. In 2012, it ranked 15th. Because Ford is committed to sustainability, it received the top spot because of its forward-thinking approach to being responsible for the environment. Because Ford focuses on water, waste reduction and green building efforts, the company is highly recognized as a green company.

According to Robert Brown, the vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering for Ford, the company is “working to develop the highest-quality products in the market for our customers while manufacturing them in the most environmentally responsible manner” on a global level.

Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s global chief executive officer said that “over the past few years, Ford has proven to be a sustainability leader.” Currently, Ford uses EcoBoost engines for efficiency and power; hybrid vehicles, which run on a gas engine and a battery-driven electric motor; plug-in hybrids, which are part gas and part electric; and all electric cars.

The EcoBoost engines make more horsepower with smaller engines, thus saving the amount of gas used. Hybrid vehicles run on the battery when possible and use the gas engine when more power is required or when the batteries need to be charged. A plug-in hybrid uses battery power then switches to the gas engine and/or uses the gas engine for more horsepower when it’s needed. And, the all electric vehicles do not have a gas engine.
