August Events around Temple

Looking for something ot do this month? There are several exciting and entertaining events going on right here in Temple during the month of August.

There is always something captivating happening at the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, Texas. For years now, the Cultural Activities Center, or CAC, has been creating experiences and awareness in the arts and entertainment for the public. This center truly embraces the power of creation and aspires to enrich the lives of Central Texas through exploration, participation, and enjoyment in the fine arts. The goal was to link cultural arts with the importance on science.

The Inner City All-Stars event will be held August 31st starting at 7:30pm at CAC’s Frank Mayborn Auditorium. This electrifying event is a powerful combination of pure talent and highly energized music. You can’t help but to dance the entire night away! The Inner City All Stars have been considered new leaders of their own musical genre.

This group originated from Denton, TX, the same as Grammy Award winners Norah Jones and Bowling for Soup. They will be performing original numbers that are designed to get the crowd out of their seats and hitting the dance floor.

Take a much needed break from the normal and give Painting with a Twist a try. Located off West Adams Avenue in Temple and just 10 minutes away from Johnson Brothers, this is a new take on painting that involves a little paint, a little wine, and lots of fun! If you’re looking for a way to connect with your friends, or take a date night with that special someone, you are sure to have an experience like none other. This Friday, August 16th, the featured lesson is Sunset Bay with instructor Shelbylee Erkelens.

The lesson begins at 7pm with doors opening 30 minutes in advance so that everyone gets an opportunity to check in and settle down. Arriving early also allows you to set up your snacks and drinks, mingle, and browse the art studio. Admission starts at just $45 per seat.

Come enjoy your night in Temple with a new piece of art work, lots of laughs, and experiences you won’t soon forget. Remember, if you’re in the market for a new Ford vehicle, come by our dealership. August is packed with events and you need to get to them all somehow!

West Benevolence Fund

Pray For WestTragedy is unbiased. Sometimes, unexplainably awful things happen for no apparent reason. The city of West, Texas encountered one such event on the day of April 17th, 2013. A fertilizer plant somehow ignited and caused a massive explosion that has wounded hundreds and claimed at least 15 people. Buildings have been damaged or completely obliterated by this blast. The SPJST, Slovanska Podporujici Jednota Statu Texas, has established The West Benevolent Fund in order to help rebuild the city.

To date, more than $30,000 has already been received. The first check of $3,937 was given to West Sokol to replace gymnastics equipment that was damaged due to the explosion. In order to raise more funds for rebuilding, the SPJST is holding a Gala event on Saturday, July 20 at Star Hall in Seaton, Texas. All proceeds will benefit the West Benevolence Fund. For only $50 per person, you will experience a night filled with delicious food from Slovacek’s Sausage and the musical talents of The Ennis Polka Boys and others. Your ticket purchase is also good for one entry into a drawing where the grand prize is a trip for 2 to the Czech Republic. There are other prizes to be won as well.

Of course they will accept any and all donations for their cause. If you donate $250 or more, your business will be printed in the program as an underwriter. All donors prior to the Gala will be listed in the program. They are also collecting merchandise for the auction, both live and silent, and for the bucket drawings. Any suitable gifts or services will be acceptable. There will also be a Pre-Gala party on Friday, July 19th which will include music from the 50s and 60s. There is no charge for this event and all ages are invited.

Join with your fellow West citizens and the SPJST in rebuilding this wonderful city. This message is brought to you by your local Temple Ford dealer.

May Events In Temple

Hoagy's HeroesMany of us wonder what we can do with our spare time when we have it. For those of us who are not content to spend weekend after weekend at home, here are a few ideas from your neighbors at your local Temple Ford Dealer to get you out and about. Temple is full of events for people of all ages. An event coming up this weekend is the Hoagy’s Heroes Lone Star Six Shooter Charity Run. There are different start times on different days based on which type of run you sign up for. They have runs from 500 miles in 12 hours to 2000 miles in 36 hours. So if you have a motorbike, head on out and ride while supporting local charities!

Next, load up your Ford and head on over to the 5th Annual Battle of Temple Junction Civil War Reenactment. On May 18, prepare to relive the battles of the Civil War. Temple was not founded until many years after the War Between the States was over. The purpose of this event is to demonstrate how the battles were fought and how troops lived and trained during the war. There also are food and period vendors, called Sutlers, who will be selling their wares to the general public and the reenactors.

Near the end of the month, May 25, there is a free movie in the park event. This will take place at Miller Park within the heart of Temple. The featured film is The Lorax which is a movie based on a favorite children’s novel by Dr. Seuss. So bring blankets, chairs, snacks and the kids to this outdoor movie extravaganza. It is sure to provide lifelong memories with the family.

Entertainment: This festival is for people of all ages to get together and have some fun. Listen to live music played by local artists and bands such as Lee Roy Parnell, Ruben Ramos, Randy Rogers Band and others. The kids can enjoy the carnival with tons of food and games as they romp through Kid Zone or see the animals at the petting zoo. Feel free to have a picture taken at the Mother’s Day Photo Booth and save time for bike tours.

Events: Have a vehicle from your Ford that you customized with the coolest graphics and paint job? Then enter into the SPJST car show to win prizes. Even if you don’t get a prize, you can still check out all the other customized vehicles and get some interesting ideas on how you can make your car look and perform even better.

If guitars and country music is your passion, you can put your skills to the test on stage and become the next country music superstar by entering the Texaco Country Showdown. Compete against other country musicians as you impress the crowd with your sound. Play as a band or just rock out the stage on your own like the next Leann Rimes.
