June Events

With the warmer weather here and school out, it can only mean one thing. Summer is here and there are many events and activities to partake in. If you are short on ideas of places to take your friends, family and guests to, don’t worry. Your friends at Johnson Brothers Ford have compiled a short list for you.

The Hot Summer Sounds event will be taking place at Miller Park every Friday night through June and July. This is one of the best summer traditions that takes place in Temple. This year marks the 16th Annual Hot Summer Sounds event which is an eight-week free concert held on Friday nights. This festival provides a variety of unique entertainment for the entire family. Bring a picnic basket, comfy lawn chairs, friends, family and neighbors for an evening of free music and fun.

The Mex-Tex Family Fiesta is taking place at the Centennial Plaza in downtown Midland, TX, on June 6 and 7. This event has grown in popularity in the last 26 years and has become the Premier Hispanic Culture event. It is truly a celebration of Hispanic Culture with traditional dances and costumes, food, crafts and live entertainment. This is an event for every member of the community to be a part of. With over 10,000 people attending, this is an incredible two day long event.

If you’re looking for a fun event to do with your pup, the Morning Glory Ranch Paws for a Cause is it. Join others along with their furry friends at the ranch on June 14 at 9am. This is the 2nd Annual Paws for a Cause Fundraising Dog Walk. Arrive early to sign in and pick up your pre-walking gifts. Then head over to the 3k walk around the beautiful ranch. There will also be a costume contest so make sure to dress your pooch in their finest. After the walk is over, you’re invited to cool down in one of the many ponds or at a watering station. A Fast and the Furriest obstacle challenge will also be taking place along with a Human Barking contest. We ask that all dogs be kept on leashes and are up to date with current vaccinations.

Have a fun, safe and happy June from your Temple Ford dealer.

Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum

There’s nothing more rewarding than visiting historical places of people who have really made a difference in our lives. One such person who made dozens of contributions while he had office was President Lyndon B. Johnson. There is a library dedicated to him, his life, and his wife in Austin, Texas. Before we get into his great accomplishments and what he achieved, it’s important to understand who he was and where he came from.

Lyndon B. Johnson was born in central Texas and worked his way through poverty and Southwest Texas State Teachers College. He saw how important it was to help those in his shoes and so he ran for House of Representatives in 1937. He was aided by his wife, Lady Bird, who he married in 1934. He was elected to the Senate in 1948 and became the most commanding Majority Leader of the 1900s. He ran alongside President John F Kennedy during the 1960 election and was voted as his Vice President. After the fateful day Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson became the 36th President.

After taking office, Johnson pushed through two bills which had begun under Kennedy. The first one became the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the other was a tax cut act. Because of his already outstanding achievements during his short term as president, he was quickly voted back in during the 1964 election. Throughout this term, he passed more than 60 education bills, began an urban renewal campaign, tackled the crime and delinquency rate, and initiated the fight against poverty and so much more. One of his other greatest contributions was the Medicare Amendment.

Before his untimely death in 1973 from a heart attack, he had just heard word that peace was within reach in Vietnam. This man lived an incredible life full of amazing things. He loved his country so much and gave so much to it. Give back by celebrating his life and contributions to the world by visiting his museum and library. You will learn so much more about him through the exhibits and events held at the center. So load up the family Ford and head on down to Austin. There is something for everyone to do here. Happy travels from Johnson Brothers Ford.

Eco-Friendly With Ford

Everyone is looking for ways to be more green and to be more eco-friendly in their day to day life. If you are ready to make that step to living more eco-friendly, even where your car is concerned, here are some tips from your Temple Ford dealer.

In order to get better mileage for your vehicle and reduce your emissions, remove excess weight. The more stuff you have in your car, it will use up to 2 percent more gas. Take a look in the trunk and unload some of that junk.

Do your part by driving green. This means avoid driving aggressively. It’s one of the main reasons we waste fuel. Speeding and coming to sudden stops along with jerky movements all contribute to bad fuel economy. Also remember to turn off your car and not to idle in traffic. Your vehicle’s engine is actually running less efficiently while sitting stationary. An idling car also puts out toxic emissions that harm the envrionment.

Maintain the correct PSI in your tiresI. This is not only good for the environment, but is also good for your wallet. The proper PSI can be found in the driver’s side door or in your owner’s manual. Properly inflated tires last longer and increase your gas mileage by over 3 percent.

Think green about parking. If you have the chance, park in a shaded area or garage during hot weather. Keeping your car shaded means less fuel evaporates. It also decreases the amount of energy needed to cool your car off when you get in. Speaking of cooling, if it’s a beautiful day and the air feels great, roll down the windows and enjoy. This will cut down on running your AC and save on fuel costs by 13 percent.

Keep your vehicle properly maintained. Make sure to keep up with regular tune-ups. This is important when it comes to keeping your car running efficiently. A properly maintained vehicle will result in fewer emissions and the usage of less gas. It’s important to keep your car clean and free of debris. You can still wash your car and be green while doing so. Pick out eco-friendly soaps such as Simple Green. Wash your car on the lawn so the toxins can be absorbed and neutralized back into the soil instead of flowing into the storm drain.

If you remember these simple tips, we can all do our part to help the environment. Have fun finding even more ways to be eco-friendly from the folks over at Johnson Brothers Ford.

There will be live entertainment for your enjoyment during the event until 7pm. The live auction will follow the live entertainment and will have marvelous items up for grabs. Ford Truck Standard

Ford has always been a household name. No matter your preference in truck brands, one thing is for sure. You can’t argue with numbers and Ford’s F-series has come out on top for 32 years straight. They sold more trucks than Chevrolet last year with 763,402 over 480,414. Though both brands managed to increase their sales over the previous year, Ford still came out ahead. Why is this? Why are we seeing Ford skyrocket into the lead every year? The answer is simple.

Ford has the best in designs and innovations for their vehicles. When new technology comes out, they jump on making that technology part of their standard trucks and cars. Even more than technology though, they are figuring out how to make their trucks lighter while still reinforcing the strength they possess. In recent months, Ford announced they were rebuilding their F-series trucks with aluminum framing instead of the traditional steel. This major change is going to keep them ahead of the game for a lot of consumers by increasing fuel economy and overall safety.

The MyFord Sync infotainment systems have evolved over the years as well. From the basic Sync system to the Sync with MyFord Touch, it is there to help you out with navigation, emergency assistance and hands-free communication. This is available in many of the vehicle choices. There have even been incredible additions such as Active Park Assist to aid you in making parallel parking as easy as pushing a button.

The hands-free auto liftgate technology on their SUVs is also a handy feature to have when you have your hands full. A simple sensor and gentle tap with your foot opens the trunk hatch. In the not too distant future, they have even mentioned that ‘self-driving’ cars would be here before you know it. That is probably still a few years away but just knowing that Ford is moving forward with technology is exciting. The possibilities are endless and we can’t wait to see what will come out next.

All of these reasons is why Ford is still number one. Why look for any other car or truck? When you want the best, stop on by Johnson Brothers Ford. Our friendly and courteous staff is more than willing to assist you in choosing that perfect Ford for you.
