Food For Families

In light of the coming holiday events, Johnson Brothers Ford is teaming up with Food for Families to raise donations, food, and hunger awareness for the Central Texas area.

This is an annual project run by the Boy Scouts of America, the Texas Army National Guard, H.E.B., and KWTX-TV. They join together with food banks across Central Texas to collect non-perishable food items that they can hand out during and beyond the holiday season.

H.E.B. joined as a partner in 1991 after the success of the first year, which raised more than 84,000 pounds of food. After complicated federal legislations, the Texas Army National Guardsmen became the fourth partner in 1998. Through this program, counties that before had no food pantries have long since been able to establish a center to help feed impoverished families. This nine county, one-day of goodwill always takes place the Friday before Thanksgiving and is always televised live every thirty minutes from 6am to 8pm.

For the past 23 years now, volunteers from the above mentioned establishments, along with other community organizations, collect food from these nine counties. This is the biggest one-day food drive in Texas. All of the food that’s collected from the county serves the residents of that county. For the past seven years, Texans have donated more than a million pounds of food and donations each year. Last year alone, the donations of food totaled more than 1,453,000 pounds.

If you feel you are able to help out with this drive, please visit any of the participating sites. There are over a dozen different places throughout Central Texas where you can drop off your non-perishable donations. Non-perishable items include canned meats such as tuna, chicken, and stew; canned vegetables; cereals; baby food; and rice, flour, sugar, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, and corn meal, among others. Feel free to give anything else that will not go bad as well, but these are the most needed items.

A few of the participating sites are a range of H.E.B. food stores, many local food banks, and even a few churches and local government buildings. This holiday, remember to help those who are in need. Load up what you can in your Ford car or truck and generously give to those who are less fortunate.

Drive 4 UR School

Johnson Brothers Ford is always looking to help a worthy cause. We are always on the look out to see what organization we can help or be a part of.

Currently, we have teamed up with the Temple High School Choral Department to raise money for the Drive 4 UR School program. This is a Ford designed effort to help local companies raise money for their local schools throughout the country.

Drive 4 UR School was started to help schools raise money for their extracurricular activities as well as sports programs. The way it works is simple. Regular men and women from the area walk into the participating dealership and test drive a car on their lot. After the drive, $20 is donated by Ford Motor Company to the school raising the funds. This continues throughout the day of the event and the school can raise up to $6,000. The more people who take a test drive, the more money can be raised. All you have to do is test drive an amazing vehicle!

This is a great opportunity to expose the community to the Ford and Lincoln brand while promoting goodwill. You can test drive almost any vehicle during this event except for the Crown Victoria and the E-series. The event will take place on Saturday, October 12.

A few of the options you can test drive are the new C-Max, Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, Edge, Escape, and more. The 2013 Ford C-Max is a hybrid vehicles that has a 2.0L IVCT engine and gets 45 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. With these numbers, you can expect to receive at least 500 miles to the tank. The technology in this car is fantastic. The Sync with MyFord Touch comes standard in this vehicle as does the Intelligent Access with push button start and is HD radio ready.

The Fiesta is a lower priced option but that doesn’t mean it has less features. Available engine options can still get you up to 30mpg city and 41 mpg highway. There are 10 different vibrant colors to choose from as well as 7 different fuel-efficient models so you can personalize your Fiesta. You can customize just about any aspect of this vehicle including the seats.

Visit Johnson Bros in Temple on October 12 to help a great cause and drive an amazing new car.

There is also a movie room for relaxing downtime and a video arcade with popular video game consoles such as Xbox, Wii, and Playstation. There is also a gym for various sports and games.

The girls have a lot of the same areas and activities the boys do, but they also have a kitchen for cooking classes, a library, and an arts and crafts room.

The members of the Ralph Wilson Youth Club have the opportunity to partake in classes and field trips per the schedule for the summer. Some of the classes offered for members of RWYC are cooking, an art lab, Amtrak train, and keychain and jewelry making. Back to School Getaways

Summer is winding down and autumn will be here soon, which  means that students are heading back to school. Though there are still plenty of chances for quick weekend activities between homework, band practice, and football games, time is definitely more of a commodity now that school is back in session. Here are some ideas for a quick getaway:

The Railroad and Heritage Museum in Temple is the perfect escape for the family. The museum was completed in 1911 and features a working Amtrak Station. It takes you on a history of the railroad that relates back to local and regional past. The museum regularly hosts new temporary exhibits and educational programs. The antique railroad equipment displayed include railroad passenger cars, a caboose, and three locomotives.

The mission of Temple’s Railroad and Heritage Museum is to continually preserve, collect, and exhibit the antiquity of railroading in all of Southwest United States while passing down the history for generations to come. Take a trip back in time and explore the exhibits that are devoted to pioneer farm, ranch, and home life. Study the tools and clothing and experience the early days of railroading in Texas. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Admission is $4.00 for ages 13-59 and $2.00 for kids and seniors.

Temple Lake Park is a great way to spend the day! Come cool off on the 172 acres along Lake Belton. Load up your fishing gear, picnic basket, and sunscreen. If you have a boat, bring it, too! Get ready for a full day at the lake with the family. This park offers an array of amenities with over 62 picnic tables, grills, two-lane boat ramps, a kid friendly roped-off swimming area, hot water showers, restrooms, volley ball court, basketball court, and playgrounds.

If that isn’t enough, Temple Lake is known for providing some of the best fishing and boating that Central Texas has to offer. Popular fish include the hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and sunfish. Even if you don’t have a boat, anglers are welcomed! You can observe wildlife such as deer, turkey, and other small game. Temple Lake Park offers one group shelter called Temple’s Pavilion that must be reserved ahead of time. The park is day use only and no camping is allowed.

Get out there and have some last minute fun! And don’t forget to visit Johnson Bros. for all of your car and truck service needs in Temple!
