Ford is introducing a newly designed airbag system for the 2015 Mustang. This new system now includes a knee airbag for the front seat passenger. This provides extra protection while at the same time reducing the size of the system which gives more room and comfort for the passenger. The new Mustang has twice as many airbags in the works and more peripheral crash sensors and better safety belts. The knee airbag will be placed in the glove box door and reduces weight and gives greater flexibility for the designers. The positioning of this air bag also allows for a lower inflation pressure.

As far as safety concerns go, there is also another added features which is the tri-bar signature lighting. This improves visibility of the area and road around you while night driving. The 2015 Ford Mustang will also come with the Ford MyKey which allows the setting of speed controls as well as audio volume and other features. July Events Near Temple

Spend the morning picking out everyone’s favorite produce and take the chance to learn about new ones. Join in on one of Temple’s hottest events and summer traditions. This year marks the 16th Annual Hot Summer Sounds Free concert series. Nothing says summer quite like music filling the summer air at Miller Park. Bring a picnic basket, lawn chairs and blankets for a fun-filled evening of relaxation and harmony. Concerts begin at 7:30pm and admission is free.

Sweatin’ with the Oldies returns on Monday, July 14, at Sammons Community Center starting at 10am. If you know a friend or have someone in your family with mobility issues, this is a great class to help get back into daily exercises even with physical limitations. Break a sweat in a unique exercise session designed for those who have mobility issues or even difficulty standing while doing daily exercise. These can be done easily in a chair as well as standing. Exercises included are low stretches and balance exercises. These exercises add additional help with toning and strengthening muscles that increase every day flexibility and mobility. This class is adaptable for every level of physical limitations and is led by Kathy Patterson.

Looking to try your hand at a new card game? How about trying Pinochle for Beginners. Spend the afternoon at the Sammons Community Center beginning at 2pm learning all about this interesting card game. Admission is just $5 per person. This game can be fast-paced but once the basics are learned it’s rather easy and somewhat addictive. Enjoy these great events from your Temple Ford dealer.

Padre Island National Seashore

Are you looking for a place to visit this summer that has natural beauty and pure relaxation? If so, the Padre Island National Seashore is your spot. Load up your friends and family in your Temple Ford car or truck and reconnect with nature. There are a wide variety of things to do leaving endless opportunities for everyone to enjoy something new and beautiful.

If you’re traveling with children, this is their chance to become official Junior Rangers. This program is intended for children ages 5 to 13. They are provided with a booklet that contains activities which will help them learn the secrets that make Padre Island so extraordinary. Explore the area and do the booklet activities together as a family. Once it is completed, give the booklet to the park ranger and your child can be sworn in as an official National Park Junior Ranger and be given a ranger badge.

Traveling with a motorhome? Many RVer’s enjoy staying at the Bird Island Basin also known as the BIB campsite. Camping is first come first served here and RVs are welcome though no hookups are provided. The Island campgrounds do offer RV dump stations along with water filling stations. Tghere is a bathhouse with showers that are within walking distance of the Visitors Center.

Many guests enjoy visiting this island for the fishing opportunities as well. Padre Island has become one of the biggest hot spots for this hobby. Fishing does require a state issued fishing license along with a saltwater stamp. You can easily pick one up outside the park at any tackle shop or gas station.

We hope you packed your binoculars because you’re in for a birding treat here. This location is known for having more bird species than any other city within the United States. Padre Island National Seashore spans over 130,000 acres making it an exceptional place for avid bird watchers. For the last 10 years running, the city of Corpus Christi where the park is located has won the contest for being the birdiest city in the U.S. Come and enjoy the crisp sea air and be lulled to sleep by the water splashing against the shoreline. Avoid Sun Damage On Your Car

With summer here, it’s time to load up the car and enjoy some of the happenings going on around you. While you are out having fun, your car is left in the hot heat of the day, many times without shade or cover. Let us shed some light on how serious sun damage can be for your vehicle. Direct sunlight is your car’s worst enemy. It not only can ruin your car’s paint but it damages its interior as well. Your friends at Johnson Brothers Ford want to share a few tips with you on how to avoid sun damage this summer.

Start by parking in the shade. By doing this simple step, you will help to keep your car’s dash, leather and steering wheel from direct sunlight which causes drying out and cracking. Keep your dashboard clean of dust, dirt and other debris and use a cleaner and/or protectant to help fading and discoloration due to the sun’s UV rays. If you can’t park in shade, purchase a window shade. This will add protection as well as help to keep your car’s temperature cooler.

Similar issues can occur to your car’s upholstery. Leather seats will age quickly when constantly exposed to the sun and high temperatures. The heat will dry out the leather’s natural oils causing it to stiffen, tear or crack. To avoid this, use a leather conditioner often. You might also consider seat covers. They also provide added protection so you won’t burn your skin on extra hot days.

Direct sunlight not only ruins your interior but is just as harmful to your exterior. Let’s look over some ways to help protect your car’s exterior. To avoid your Temple Ford‘s paint from fading, rusting, and corrosion, your car needs to have a bath. Washing your car weekly is a key component. Wash under the shade and not during the hottest part of the day. Once washed, make sure to dry thoroughly. Any left behind water will evaporate and end up leaving behind minerals that will increase oxidation causing your car to rust. Use a microfiber cloth to dry and then protect your car from rusting by waxing. By waxing you will be protecting your car’s paint from pollutants thus preventing damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.

Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum

There’s nothing more rewarding than visiting historical places of people who have really made a difference in our lives. One such person who made dozens of contributions while he had office was President Lyndon B. Johnson. There is a library dedicated to him, his life, and his wife in Austin, Texas. Before we get into his great accomplishments and what he achieved, it’s important to understand who he was and where he came from.

Lyndon B. Johnson was born in central Texas and worked his way through poverty and Southwest Texas State Teachers College. He saw how important it was to help those in his shoes and so he ran for House of Representatives in 1937. He was aided by his wife, Lady Bird, who he married in 1934. He was elected to the Senate in 1948 and became the most commanding Majority Leader of the 1900s. He ran alongside President John F Kennedy during the 1960 election and was voted as his Vice President. After the fateful day Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson became the 36th President.

After taking office, Johnson pushed through two bills which had begun under Kennedy. The first one became the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the other was a tax cut act. Because of his already outstanding achievements during his short term as president, he was quickly voted back in during the 1964 election. Throughout this term, he passed more than 60 education bills, began an urban renewal campaign, tackled the crime and delinquency rate, and initiated the fight against poverty and so much more. One of his other greatest contributions was the Medicare Amendment.

Before his untimely death in 1973 from a heart attack, he had just heard word that peace was within reach in Vietnam. This man lived an incredible life full of amazing things. He loved his country so much and gave so much to it. Give back by celebrating his life and contributions to the world by visiting his museum and library. You will learn so much more about him through the exhibits and events held at the center. So load up the family Ford and head on down to Austin. There is something for everyone to do here. Eco-Friendly With Ford

Everyone is looking for ways to be more green and to be more eco-friendly in their day to day life. If you are ready to make that step to living more eco-friendly, even where your car is concerned, here are some tips from your Temple Ford dealer.

In order to get better mileage for your vehicle and reduce your emissions, remove excess weight. The more stuff you have in your car, it will use up to 2 percent more gas. Take a look in the trunk and unload some of that junk.

Do your part by driving green. This means avoid driving aggressively. It’s one of the main reasons we waste fuel.
