Getting Your Ford Ready For Spring Break

good to the last drop

Road trips are fun and exciting and are largely popular during Spring Break. Students, teachers, and other persons who desire a break from the dull ending winter months strive for sunny beaches and warmer climates. Before you head out this year to your favorite vacation hideaway, make sure your Ford is just as ready to go as you are. There are several things to check before you hit the road.

Oil changes are usually pretty cheap and quick at most places. This is wonderful since it is a crucial, key component when readying your pride and joy for a Spring Break road trip. While you are at your Temple Ford dealer getting your oil changed, it’s a great idea to make sure they have checked your fluids and topped off as necessary. This includes the power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. You don’t want to get caught down the road with an overheated engine, so also check your coolant levels.

Tires are designed to wear out, so check to see that you have ample tread on your tires. If you aren’t sure, use the penny trick. Grab a penny and stick it into the grooves of the tread with his head down. If you can see his entire head clearly, it’s time for new tires. Also, be sure to keep an eye on the PSI in your tires. The proper inflation amount should be listed either in your owner’s manual or the inside sticker of the driver’s side door. Proper PSI will also give you better fuel economy on your trip.

Don’t overload your vehicle. Only take with you the things you really need. Take out those school books, gym bags, or other unneeded objects before you pack for your adventure. The lighter your car or truck, the better mileage you ultimately receive. Keep your speed in check, too. We all get excited to get to our destination, but easy does it. Remember that every 10 miles per hour you go over the limit is going to decrease your fuel efficiency.

Keep this simple checklist in mind before you head out for Spring Break. If you need assistance with any of these items, stop by Johnson Brothers Ford. Our friendly service department staff is more than willing to assist you.

President’s Day Road Trip

Lyndon B. Johnson, Time cover January 1, 1965, "Man of the Year"

One holiday that doesn’t get as much notice as it should is President’s Day. This special day honors all of the presidents we’ve had since our country’s birth in 1776.

It primarily began as a day of celebration in honor of our nation’s first president, George Washington. Our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was also born in the month of February, and so the third Monday in February of every year has been dubbed President’s Day. Let’s not only commemorate these great leaders, but all of the ones who have served this great nation.

Some people simply enjoy having the day off or the long weekend that sometimes precedes this holiday. For others, sitting at home just will not do. If you’re looking for something more interesting to do this President’s Day weekend, take a road trip with your Ford through the amazing state of Texas and see where a few of the presidents were born or lived.

The first president on our list was born in Stonewall, Texas. Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th president, and he was born, raised, and passed away at his ranch on land that was passed down from his ancestors. His ranch and surrounding land has been turned into a National Historic Park that you may visit any day of the year. They have guided tours of all areas, including his childhood home, the Johnson Settlement, and the Texas White House.

Heading due northwest of Stonewall lies Midland, the town that George W. Bush calls home. There you’ll find the 43rd president’s childhood home. It has also now become a protected Presidential Site. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and has been restored to its original 1950s look. Learn about two of our country’s presidents, their families, and their work during office.

If you have more time on your long weekend, take the drive on over Northeast of Midland to Denison, Texas. Here is where you will find where President Eisenhower lived and spent the first few years of his life. He did move around a lot before his presidency and ended up living in Pennsylvania afterwards.

If you’re looking for a different way to spend your President’s Day Weekend, load up your Johnson Brothers Ford and hit the road.

They are so much more satisfied with this choice and love the technology features such as the entertainment system, heated seats and easyfuel capless fuel filler.

Other models people have switched to include the Fiesta, Fusion, Focus and Escape. Come in and test drive any of these fabulous vehicles and see for yourself firsthand why more people are making the switch to Ford. Once you get behind the wheel of one, you will never turn back.

2015 Ford F150

Ford is making way for the new model year for the F150. We just hit 2014 so it will be a little while until we see it, but the 2015 is on its way. There isn’t a lot of information on it out there right now but there are some things we do know. The style of the truck is something that’s already been seen in the Baja 1000 from the 2013 off-road race. This outstanding new truck is made out of aluminum almost everywhere. The cab and the bed is made from aluminum with steel only making up a few key components of the design. Some of those components are naturally the frame and side-impact beams.

Something we’re betting you didn’t know about the new F150 is that it is ready to plow snow. In models past, this truck wasn’t designed properly for the use with a snow plow. If you’re living in the northern climates where digging your way out of snow is important, this feature is great. Plow away without worrying that your electrical system might be compromised.

We mentioned before that the bed is made of aluminum. We know this leaves many wondering if it would be strong enough for all of the hauling and work that truck beds are made to withstand. Fear not. The bed is actually stronger due to the thicker gauge of aluminum used instead of the heavy steel. The use of aluminum makes the truck more light-weight as well.

One of the most interesting features is the almost flush rear window. Usually the rear window is split into sections to allow it to open in the middle. This window is one solid piece that has an opening in the center which appears to just hover in the middle giving it a magical look. This is a new sleek design that is sure to be more appealing.

Another new feature of this masterpiece is that it isn’t just held together by nuts and bolts. It is also assembled using gluing, riveting and some welding techniques. If you’re thinking of a new work truck or one just to ride around town in, check out the 2015 F150 when it comes to Johnson Brothers Ford. You won’t be disappointed.

Decorating Your Ford

Ford drivers spend a lot of time in their vehicles. It’s only natural for Christmas decorations to be at the top of the list of must-do’s for the season. Here are some great ways to decorate your Johnson Brothers Ford car or truck for this festive time of year.

The most important part of decorating is the lights. You have a range of options from LED light strings to neon installations. Both trucks and cars will be sporting some form of Christmas cheer with lights. You can arrange a small string of lights across the top of the back window to an entire rope of lights lining the bed of your truck. Make sure to know what is safe and what’s legal. Check with your city and state before lighting up your truck or car this Christmas.

Decals make for a temporary and easy way to add some Christmas spirit to your vehicle. They are easy to apply and simply peel off when the season is over. Many retailers sell different shapes and sizes. You can find everything from candy canes to assorted Christmas figures. Apply these to your hood, doors, and windows.

Many Christmas spirited motorists go that extra mile by decorating their dashboards. You can place stuffed animals on your dashboard with some fake cotton snow. Just make sure to be safe and that all the decorations do not interfere with your visibility while driving.

You might also consider placing some holly and ivy in or on your car. These can be easily added to the interior without interfering with your visibility. Or place a holiday wreath on the front grill. Just make sure it’s secure, you don’t want it to come loose while driving.

A lot of people enjoy the idea of placing car antlers in the windows and a big red nose on the front. Turning your vehicle into Rudolph is simple and fun to do. Again, just make sure everything is properly secure.

Don’t forget to make your favorite holiday music play list to help get in the spirit. Adding a pine scented air freshener will also help with the overall holiday ambiance this season.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these helpful decorating ideas from your Johnson Brothers Ford dealership. Have a fun and safe holiday season.
