Ralph Wilson Youth Club Fundraiser

Making a difference in the lives of the community is something every great business strives to achieve. When an opportunity arises, the caring staff at Johnson Brothers Ford of Temple do all they can to help out.

Currently, we have been given the chance to hold an event for the Ralph Wilson Youth Club on October 17, 2013. This event will feature games and activities for the kids attending and will also have food for everyone.

This Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children grow, learn, and have fun during the summer. Unfortunately, a highway is being constructed right through their building. The community has come together to build them a new one, but are in need of more funding. Because of this, Johnson Bros. wants your help in raising $1,000 for them. We are donating $250 and giving an additional dollar for every new fan on each of our Facebook pages. All you have to do is visit our pages and click “like.” Come help your community!

The Ralph Wilson Youth Club is a recreational facility for boys and girls between 5 and 14 years of age. The Club has two separate clubhouse areas that divide the children into boys and girls. The boys  typically enjoy activities in one of two large game rooms that include foosball, table hockey, basketball, and bumper pool. There is also a movie room for relaxing downtime and a video arcade with popular video game consoles such as Xbox, Wii, and Playstation. There is also a gym for various sports and games.

The girls have a lot of the same areas and activities the boys do, but they also have a kitchen for cooking classes, a library, and an arts and crafts room.

The members of the Ralph Wilson Youth Club have the opportunity to partake in classes and field trips per the schedule for the summer. Some of the classes offered for members of RWYC are cooking, an art lab, Amtrak train, and keychain and jewelry making. There are swimming lessons and sports clinics as well that children can take part in. The field trips for the members of the Club visit places like Lion’s Junction Water Park, Innerspace Caverns, and Summer Fun.

Back to School Getaways

Summer is winding down and autumn will be here soon, which  means that students are heading back to school. Though there are still plenty of chances for quick weekend activities between homework, band practice, and football games, time is definitely more of a commodity now that school is back in session. Here are some ideas for a quick getaway:

The Railroad and Heritage Museum in Temple is the perfect escape for the family. The museum was completed in 1911 and features a working Amtrak Station. It takes you on a history of the railroad that relates back to local and regional past. The museum regularly hosts new temporary exhibits and educational programs. The antique railroad equipment displayed include railroad passenger cars, a caboose, and three locomotives.

The mission of Temple’s Railroad and Heritage Museum is to continually preserve, collect, and exhibit the antiquity of railroading in all of Southwest United States while passing down the history for generations to come. Take a trip back in time and explore the exhibits that are devoted to pioneer farm, ranch, and home life. Study the tools and clothing and experience the early days of railroading in Texas. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Admission is $4.00 for ages 13-59 and $2.00 for kids and seniors.

Temple Lake Park is a great way to spend the day! Come cool off on the 172 acres along Lake Belton. Load up your fishing gear, picnic basket, and sunscreen. If you have a boat, bring it, too! Get ready for a full day at the lake with the family. This park offers an array of amenities with over 62 picnic tables, grills, two-lane boat ramps, a kid friendly roped-off swimming area, hot water showers, restrooms, volley ball court, basketball court, and playgrounds.

If that isn’t enough, Temple Lake is known for providing some of the best fishing and boating that Central Texas has to offer. Popular fish include the hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and sunfish. Even if you don’t have a boat, anglers are welcomed! You can observe wildlife such as deer, turkey, and other small game. Temple Lake Park offers one group shelter called Temple’s Pavilion that must be reserved ahead of time. The park is day use only and no camping is allowed.

Get out there and have some last minute fun! And don’t forget to visit Johnson Bros. for all of your car and truck service needs in Temple!

Fuel For Thought

Screen Shot 2013-06-12 at 9.38.36 AMMiles per gallon, MPG, is important and your Texas Ford dealer has a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your car. Things you wouldn’t necessarily think of such as keeping the road rage to a minimum. Aggressive driving habits such as rapid acceleration, breaking and speeding are major fuel wasters and will lower your gas by as much as 33%. By taking your time and driving sensibly, you will end up saving more gas and money than you thought possible.

If your vehicle is equipped with cruise control, it’s a great idea to use it particularly when traveling long distances. To save gas, stay at, or even a little under, the speed limit whiling driving at a consistent speed. Using your cruise control at highway speeds gives an average gas economy savings of 7%. By keeping your speed constant, you won’t be pumping extra fuel into your engine. In return, you will be saving gas.

Who knew that by removing excess weight that you could be saving gas. Every item you add decreases your mileage. So keep your vehicle’s trunk empty when possible. Remove any unnecessary items that maybe weighing you down and store them elsewhere. As little as 100 pounds extra in your car will reduce your MPG by 2%. You will be surprised how much it all adds up.

Underinflated wheels will decrease your mileage also. Not to mention they are a safety hazard. You can increase your mileage up to 3.3% by simply keeping your tires to their proper pressure. Remember that overinflated tires aren’t efficient either. Whenever you notice a drop in MPG, check your tires first. Properly inflated tires will help to improve fuel economy.

A vehicle running in poor condition will use more gas than one that’s been kept tuned up. Do this by staying on a maintenance schedule with oil changes, tune-ups, and keeping your filters clean. Using these tips will keep your Ford‘s MPG at optimum.

The History Of Ford

Model THenry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. He was the first surviving son of William and Mary Ford. At the age of 15, Ford’s rapidly growing curiosity of mechanics led him to disassemble a pocket watch and then reassemble the watch to perfection. His friends and family called him the watch repairman. Henry Ford always knew he wanted to do more with his life than work on a farm like his father. He was always working on steam engines or as an apprentice mechanist. His first big break happened after he became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company. He had so much time and money that he designed his first vehicle in his spare time; the quadricycle.

In 1903, after a slow beginning as the Cadillac Motor Company, Ford Motor Company was established. About 5 years later, the Model T was built and they sold over 15 million cars in just 19 years. Most Americans then learned to drive this model vehicle. Ford Motors is one of the few companies that survived the Great Depression. Today, Ford is the second largest U.S.-based auto maker and the fifth largest in the world. They produce automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand and luxury vehicles under the brand of Lincoln.

There are many dealerships all over the country and even in several European, Asian and South American countries. Whether it is a truck, luxury ride, commercial tractor or airplane, you can find Ford’s name and expertise on all of them. From the best-selling truck, the F-150, to the family friendly Taurus, there is always something for everybody at your local Texas Ford dealer. So come on by and check out all of our spectacular cars produced by this amazing company!

Preparing For A Trip

Ford cars and trucks have been used on road trips since the Model T first rolled out of the factory. In those days, the Model T was a basic vehicle that customers often customized to suit themselves. One family in Montana went on a road trip to Minnesota with a Model T that had camping boxes, shovels to dig out of the mud, extra tires, a few jugs of water for the radiator, and a hole in the floorboards with a flap that moved to cover the view of the passing road surface. When the mother asked what that hole was for, the dad said, “This way we don’t have to stop for bathroom breaks” and she asked, “what about the girls?”

They did have to stop, but that was a tradition in those years in the lonely West where there were no rest stops along the highway.DVD Playerfor your road trip. First, you have to consider who is going to be in the car. Are there kids going along? How old are they? Will any passengers or the driver have medical needs? Are you planning on stopping to eat or will you snack in the car?

Three things that are good for road trips are entertainment, refreshment, and comfort. What those categories look like is determined by the age and preference of the people in the car. You can do it yourself with a small cooler full of snacks and drinks, a list of games to play (count the cows!), and a map showing where the rest stops are along the route. Or, you can invest in accessories that make your vehicle customized to your needs.

Some of the custom features available through your Texas Ford Dealer will make your next trip much easier. A DVD system will prove worth every penny when the kids are tired of counting cows. The Trip Tunes Advanced turns your iPod with all its music & GPS capabilities into part of the vehicle’s stereo system and charges it at the same time. Seat covers and cargo area protectors keep the snacks from being part of the upholstery.

Even with all the leg room Ford cars and trucks offer, it is good to get out and walk around every few hours when you find you need a rest stop. What are your road trip must haves? Tell us your favorites in the comments below!
